Projects
The Earthchild Project focuses on the holistic development of children, teachers, schools and communities. Our aim is to create meaningful and sustainable change by providing practical skills in how to live a morebalanced and fulfilling life with a focus on self-awareness, health and wellness, and the environment. 1. School’s Programme: We place an Earthchild Facilitator into the existing structure of a school and with the support of the Earthchild team, teachers, parents, partnering organizations and volunteers, the facilitators introduce and maintain the programme. Our programme compliments the academic curriculum, and learners are given the opportunity to develop practical skills that can be applied at school and integrated into their lives. It includes hiking clubs, holiday programmes, extra-mural clubs, organic vegetable gardening, and environmentally educational outings. 3. Living Classrooms: We’re turning existing classrooms into ‘living’ interactive learning environments. Our Living Classroom includes: Classroom worm farms, container vegetable gardens, growing seedlings, healthy living, yoga classes, vision boards and affirmation cards. We run hands on workshops with the teachers and children introducing them to each of the above programmes. Thereafter the class is responsible for feeding the worms, watering the garden, growing the sprouts, choosing a daily affirmation card etc. The liquid fertilizer (‘worm tea’) and compost are used on their container gardens and all produce goes directly into their daily feeding scheme meals. An Earthchild Facilitator visits regularly to teach yoga, check on the existing programmes and run follow up lessons. 4. Teacher Development: The Earthchild Teachers’ Retreats were developed in response to the lack of self- development offered to teachers and they have been greatly successful. Our aim is to empower teachers with knowledge and practical tools to manage their stress and live a more balanced, healthy and happy life. It includes yoga & meditation workshops, healthy living workshops, educational nature walks and self-development and communication skills.
